The Northern Quarter, Manchester. [Review]

A small, boutique restaurant in the heart of (predictably!) the Northern Quarter. Upon
arrival we were greeted promptly (although had to approach the small bar first) and
shown to a table near the kitchen. As it was a warm, summers day the restaurant
was very hot and stuffy as it is not air conditioned. Seeing our discomfort, the waiter
moved us to a table near the door which was much cooler and a nice touch. Then the
restaurant really started to come into its own- a small but well thought out menu (with
the starters tending to lean towards fish dishes) paves the way for some of the highest
quality of cuisine available in Manchester. Relatively uncomplicated, exceptionally
cooked food including the suckling pig (£19.50) and the Goosnargh coq au vin
(£17.50) come courtesy of the best possible ingredients and an obviously talented
chef.

Although the restaurant is clean and well presented, atmosphere is lacking slightly (it
looks very much like a converted shop) but the food more than makes up for it, and
the service is also up to standard. Highly recommended, I for one shall definitely be
returning.
